Chelsea Block Man Utd's Lavia Transfer Approach

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, but face competition from Liverpool and Chelsea. The 19-year-old impressed for the Saints in the Premier League last season after joining from Manchester City.

According to the Daily Mail, United are interested but would need to sell players first to raise funds. Midfielders Scott McTominay, Fred and Donny van de Beek have been linked with moves away. United also have a £25m bid for Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat.

Southampton expect a busy week in the Lavia pursuit, with Liverpool and an unnamed foreign club also keen. Liverpool have cash from the sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia and are preparing an improved bid. Chelsea have maintained contact with Southampton.

The Saints are holding out for £50m for Lavia, but will have to pay 20% of the fee to Manchester City due to a sell-on clause. Lavia made 34 appearances for Southampton last season, but could not prevent their relegation to the Championship.
