Popular sports broadcaster Laura Woods was treated by paramedics after collapsing live on television while presenting coverage of the England women's football team's friendly against Ghana.
On-Air Incident at St Mary's Stadium
The alarming event occurred on Tuesday evening at St Mary's Stadium in Southampton, where Woods, 38, was fronting the ITV4 broadcast. During the programme, she suddenly fell forward and was swiftly caught by fellow pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante.
Cameras cut away quickly, though audio briefly continued, capturing the immediate concern of former Arsenal striker Wright, 62, who was heard asking, "Are you OK?" The broadcast then switched to an advertisement break.
Positive Health Update and Colleague Support
Several hours after the incident, Woods took to Instagram to reassure her worried followers. She described the episode as "a bit weird" and apologised for causing concern.
"The wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it's probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and hydration," she wrote, confirming she was okay. Woods expressed embarrassment that it happened on television but extended gratitude to her ITV colleagues for looking after her.
She specifically thanked Wright and Asante for catching her during the sudden collapse.
Broadcast Continues with Stand-In Presenter
Following the incident, Katie Shanahan stepped in to continue ITV's coverage alongside Wright and Asante. Shanahan informed viewers that Woods had been "taken ill" but was in good hands.
Woods's fiancé, Love Island star Adam Collard, 30, also provided reassurance on social media platform X, stating: "Laura is all ok and with the right people. Thank you for all of your kind messages."
TNT Sports, where Woods regularly presents men's Champions League coverage, joined the well-wishers, posting: "Everyone at TNT Sports would like to send Laura Woods our very best wishes. Get well soon, Woodsy."
Fans across social media expressed their concern and support for the presenter, who gave birth to a baby boy, Leo, with Collard in January before returning to presenting duties in April. The couple, who went public in October 2023, got engaged in September 2024 in St Ives, Cornwall.
