Chelsea's Fofana Avoids Ban After Second Driving Conviction

Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana has avoided a driving ban despite accumulating 14 penalty points for driving without a licence and speeding. The 22-year-old Ivorian, currently on loan at Turkish club Fatih Karagümrük, was first caught in February driving alone without insurance and without displaying L-plates.

Fofana received eight penalty points at an October hearing. However, he was caught again in July behind the wheel of his £100,000 Cadillac and also charged with speeding. A magistrate in Bexley added six more points, bringing the total to 14. The court chose not to consider a ban in a closed-door Single Justice Procedure, a decision that remains unexplained.

For the first offence, Fofana was fined £10,000. Police Constable Mark Nash stated that Fofana admitted being in the UK for three years and was driving unsupervised with a provisional licence. For the second offence, Fofana did not enter a plea, was found guilty, and fined £440 for speeding, plus £110 costs and a £176 victim surcharge.

Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde in 2022, making four appearances before loans to Union Berlin, Burnley, and Goztepe. He is now on loan at Fatih Karagümrük, scoring five goals in 11 games, with the Turkish side holding an option to buy. He has two-and-a-half years left on his Chelsea contract and three caps for Ivory Coast without scoring.
