The Betfred 2,000 Guineas, a prestigious mile-long race with a £525,000 prize fund, kicked off the Flat season's Classics at Newmarket. This year's edition saw an emphatic victory from Bow Echo, who remained unbeaten after an impressive performance.
Race Summary
Trained by George Boughey, Bow Echo was sent off as the 9-2 winner, providing 20-year-old jockey Billy Loughnane with his first Classic triumph. Loughnane became the youngest jockey to win the race since Donnacha O'Brien in 2018 aboard Saxon Warrior. The ante-post favourite throughout the spring, Bow Echo surged ahead to finish two and three-quarter lengths clear of the well-backed Gstaad, ridden by Ryan Moore for Aidan O'Brien.
Gstaad claimed the runner-up spot, while Distant Storm, the pick of William Buick, finished third. Distant Storm was sent off as the 3-1 joint favourite alongside Gstaad. Charlie Appleby, who trained Distant Storm, was aiming for his fourth victory in the race in five years but had to settle for third. The winner carried the colours of the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, who passed away in December 2025.
