Kobbie Mainoo's January Loan Exit: 12 Clubs Chase Man Utd Starlet
12 Clubs Line Up for Kobbie Mainoo January Loan

Manchester United's young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is at the centre of a potential January transfer scramble, with at least 12 clubs from England and across Europe ready to offer him an escape route from Old Trafford.

Scholes' Furious Outburst Over Mainoo Treatment

The situation has ignited after United legend Paul Scholes launched a blistering attack on manager Ruben Amorim, accusing him of ruining the 20-year-old's career. Scholes' fury erupted after Mainoo was left on the bench during Thursday's 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham United.

In a social media post, Scholes branded Amorim's previous claims that he considers Mainoo a starter as "bull****". "The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can’t control a game of football," Scholes wrote. "Hate seeing homegrown players leave but it’s probably best for him now, enough is enough."

A Season on the Sidelines Fuels Exit Desire

Mainoo's frustration is palpable. His only start this season came in the Carabao Cup defeat at Grimsby in August. In the Premier League, he has managed just 171 minutes across nine substitute appearances.

The England international, whose World Cup hopes are fading, is now desperate to leave on loan in January to secure regular football. This follows United's decision to block a proposed summer loan move to Serie A champions Napoli.

However, Napoli remain keen and are part of a large contingent of clubs from England, Italy, Spain, and Germany who have registered their interest in a temporary deal.

Amorim's Defence and Midfield Logjam

Facing questions on Friday, Amorim defended his handling of Mainoo, insisting he will not be pressured into selecting players. "You love Kobbie. He starts for England, but that doesn’t mean I need to put in Kobbie when I feel I shouldn’t," the United boss stated.

Amorim explained that Mainoo is in direct competition with captain Bruno Fernandes for an advanced midfield role, with Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte preferred as more defensive options. "I just want to win. I just put in the players, I don’t look who it is," he added.

Mainoo's hopes of a January departure may depend on United successfully recruiting a midfielder themselves. The club had summer moves for Carlos Baleba and Conor Gallagher fall through, and they continue to monitor players like Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.
