Gregg Phillips, a senior official within the Trump administration's disaster response agency, has publicly alleged that the president's Truth Social platform is actively blocking his posts. This accusation follows Phillips' repeated claims about experiencing teleportation, including a specific incident where he says he was transported to a Waffle House restaurant.
Platform Blockage Allegations
Phillips, who leads the Office of Response and Recovery at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), took to Truth Social on Wednesday to voice his frustrations. "I've tried to post it six times," he wrote in a message directed at the platform's CEO Devin Nunes. "Why are you blocking me and my ability to respond?"
The post in question, which was initially reported by Mediaite, appears to have been subsequently removed from the platform. The Independent has reached out to both Truth Social and FEMA seeking official comment on these allegations.
Teleportation Claims and Political Fallout
Phillips, who was appointed to his position in December, first gained significant attention earlier this month when CNN uncovered past statements where he made violent remarks about President Joe Biden and detailed multiple experiences with teleportation. The most notable incident involved an unexpected journey to a Waffle House location approximately fifty miles from his original position in Georgia.
"I was with my boys one time and I was telling them I was gonna go to Waffle House and get Waffle House," Phillips explained during a podcast appearance last year. "And I ended up at a Waffle House – this was in Georgia and I end up at a Waffle House like 50 miles away from where I was."
Despite facing substantial criticism from Democratic lawmakers who question his fitness for office, Phillips has consistently reaffirmed his extraordinary claims. "I know what I've experienced," he asserted in a recent social media post.
Context and Congressional Scrutiny
The FEMA official has argued that his statements have been "completely out of context" following what he describes as a CNN "hit" piece against him. Phillips maintains that these unusual experiences were part of what he calls his "spiritual journey" during a period when he was battling cancer.
Amid growing scrutiny of his background and statements, Phillips was unexpectedly removed from the schedule for a House Homeland Security Committee hearing last week. He had been slated to testify about how the ongoing partial government shutdown was affecting FEMA operations within the currently defunded Department of Homeland Security.
During that hearing, Representative Bennie Thompson, the ranking Democratic member on the committee, expressed serious concerns about Phillips' qualifications and judgment. "FEMA is on its third unqualified acting administrator in 15 months," Thompson stated. "And the witness that was scheduled to testify today, Mr. Gregg Phillips, raises serious concerns."
The Democratic representative specifically referenced Phillips' teleportation claims, noting that "Mr. Phillips reportedly claims to have been involuntarily teleported multiple times, including once to a Waffle House in Georgia."
Phillips previously served as director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services before his appointment to the federal disaster response role. The controversy surrounding his unusual claims and the alleged censorship on Truth Social continues to generate political debate about qualifications for high-level government positions.
