Race Across the World's Mark Says Show 'Changed My Life'
Race Across the World's Mark: Show 'Changed My Life'

Mark and Margo, one of the duos competing on this year's Race Across the World, have become firm fan-favourites on the BBC show. The pair is embarking on a journey across Europe and Asia in the current series, hoping to take home the staggering £20,000 prize at the end.

Mark and Margo are in-laws, as Mark was married to Margo's late sister, Julia, for 40 years before her death in 2022. The duo is one of the more unlikely pairings, with Margo being the more outgoing and confident one, while Mark is seen as the more sensible of the two.

Life-Changing Experience

However, when appearing on Tuesday's BBC Breakfast (May 5), Mark explained to Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell that the show had a huge impact on him. He said: "It was good for me, it changed my life, it had changed my life. The experience is so extreme that it is life-changing, for the better."

As Jon questioned how appearing on the programme has changed him as a person, Mark shared: "A lot more confident, I enjoy life more. I'm not as grumpy as I used to be. It's very simple things. I'm filled with joy."

Agreeing, Margo cut in to tease that in upcoming scenes, viewers will see a different side to Mark than what he has previously been like. She added: "Don't want to reveal too much, but he really does undergo a transformation."

Mark told the BBC Breakfast stars that now, he is more positive about life and himself, which he described as 'fantastic'.

Challenges Ahead

With only a couple more episodes until the series comes to an end, Margo shared that the final few legs of the competition get extremely hard. She teased: "To finish, Mongolia is hard! We've got Mongolia to go, and I think people will be stunned by Mongolia and amazed, but you are going to see us all, every single pair, challenged to the extreme. We've had some jolly and laughs, but I think it's going to get real."

Currently, Margo and Mark are up against Jo and Kush, Katie and Harrison, and Molly and Andrew, who are all competing to finish first in the Race to take home the cash prize. In the latest episode, siblings Katie and Harrison finished in first place, with Jo and Kush close behind. Sadly, Mark and Margo came in last, with seven hours between them and the top spot.

Race Across the World continues Thursdays on BBC from 8pm. BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
