A fake Vanity Fair cover featuring Melania Trump has circulated online, prompting ridicule from California Governor Gavin Newsom. The AI-generated image depicts the First Lady wearing a crown with the title “The American Queen” and a tagline about “the art of staying silent.”
MAGA supporters initially praised the cover, unaware it was a satire. The “American Queen” label references protests against Donald Trump, where demonstrators chanted “No Kings.” However, it later emerged that Melania had turned down a real offer from Vanity Fair in July, reportedly laughing at the proposal.
A source told Page Six: “She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot. Her priorities as First Lady are far more important.” Vanity Fair staff had threatened to walk out if she appeared on the cover, with one editor saying, “If [Guiducci] puts Melania on the cover, half of the editorial staff will walk out.”
Governor Newsom then released his own AI-generated cover, mimicking Melania’s pose and wearing a crown. His version read “The American King, Gavin Newsom’s Vocal Revolution” with the tagline “Hair, Gel and the Art of being so handsome.” His press team posted it on X with the caption: “AN HONOR! THANK YOU!!!”
This is not the first time Newsom has mocked the Trumps; his social media strategy of mimicking the President has boosted his poll numbers, making him a top candidate for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary.
