Rees-Mogg: Farage Deserves Dukedom for Brexit Efforts

Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has said Nigel Farage should have been given a seat in the House of Lords for his role in delivering Brexit, and that he would have awarded him a dukedom if that was what he wanted. The former Leader of the Commons argued that both Farage and Boris Johnson were essential to making Brexit a reality.

Speaking to the Sunday Express, Sir Jacob praised Farage for making the case for leaving the EU long before it was considered by mainstream politicians. He also noted that Farage stood down Brexit Party candidates in Tory-held seats in 2019, helping Johnson secure his landslide election victory.

Looking ahead to the 2029 general election, Sir Jacob said it is 'absolutely essential' for Reform UK and the Conservatives to come together. He argued that Reform needs the Conservatives' institutional knowledge of government, while the Tories need to refresh themselves by addressing issues that matter to voters.

Sir Jacob, who lost his seat at the last election, expressed a desire to return to frontline politics. He described the 2029 election as potentially as significant as the 1979 contest that brought Margaret Thatcher to power.
