Klopp Confirms Germany Talks, Urges Red Bull to Remove Block

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he has entered discussions to become the new manager of the Germany national team, while urging his current employer, Red Bull, not to block the move. The former Liverpool boss revealed the talks on Magenta TV, where he is working as a pundit for the 2026 World Cup.

Klopp Confirms Talks with DFB

"Yes, I can confirm the talks," Klopp said. "Things moved along quite quickly. Julian [Nagelsmann] has resigned and the DFB is working on a successor. And in the course of these considerations, they approached me." Germany are seeking a new manager after Nagelsmann's departure, which followed the nation's elimination from the World Cup. Nagelsmann had steered Germany to the round of 32, where they lost to Paraguay in a penalty shootout, failing to meet France in the last-16.

Klopp's Plea to Red Bull

Klopp, 59, has been serving as the head of global football for Red Bull since leaving Liverpool in 2024. He acknowledged his existing contract with Red Bull but expressed hope that his employer would not stand in his way. "I have an existing contract with Red Bull. I've said many times how much I enjoy this job. As a person, I usually honour contracts. But I've also made it clear that I'm interested in talks with the DFB," he said. "I need to talk to Oliver Mintzlaff. He's my employer. We've already discussed things. I assume he won't stand in my way. I was there for 19 months. It was an intense time. Ideally, everyone wins in the end. Red Bull needs to come out of this clean."

Klopp 'Ready' for Return

Klopp also revealed he is "more than ready" to return to football management after a two-year break from the touchline. "I'm more than ready now, so I'm prepared," he said. The DFB had earlier announced their interest in Klopp, stating: "Regarding the appointment of a new coach, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jurgen Klopp. He has already signalled his general willingness to take on the position."
