Liverpool's transfer window has slowed after signing Victor Munoz for £34.5m and Jeremy Jacquet for £60m. Now, the club faces potential departures and competition for targets.
Van Dijk Transfer Question Emerges
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are prepared to listen to offers for captain Virgil van Dijk. The 35-year-old, who joined from Southampton in 2018 for £75m, has one year left on his contract and has been linked with Galatasaray and AC Milan. While Liverpool are not actively seeking to sell, they no longer consider Van Dijk 'untouchable' and would evaluate serious offers. New manager Andoni Iraola is not pushing for his departure.
Van Dijk has been instrumental in Liverpool's success, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2019, and other domestic honours. He has also played in two losing Champions League finals against Real Madrid.
Transfer Setback for Liverpool
Liverpool's pursuit of PSG winger Bradley Barcola appears to be faltering, with the player reportedly favouring Arsenal. The Daily Mail's Lewis Steele told the Anfield Index podcast: 'I do think he probably will end up leaving PSG. He's got a decision to make and he might prefer Arsenal. He's probably looking at Mikel Arteta, and he might want to live in the capital city of London.'
PSG are keen to keep Barcola and may demand around £116m, a fee that could rise if France wins the World Cup. Steele added: 'It's going to be very, very hard for Liverpool to get Barcola.'
Another Frenchman a Target
Liverpool have been approached about Barcelona's Jules Kounde, according to reports. The 27-year-old, who can play right-back or centre-back, is also monitored by Arsenal and Manchester City. His valuation has dropped from £70m to £55m, presenting a potential opportunity for Liverpool given their uncertainty at right-back.
Former Barcelona manager Xavi called Kounde 'one of the best defenders in the world.' The French international's versatility and composure could be valuable for the Reds.
