College Republicans Director's Racist and Sexist Remarks Exposed in Livestreams

A Guardian review of livestream recordings has uncovered that Kai Schwemmer, the newly appointed political director of the College Republicans of America, has made racist, antisemitic, homophobic, and sexist statements while promoting extremist rightwing views on abortion. These comments contradict his recent claims of undergoing a "process of growth" that led him to abandon previous bigoted beliefs.

Extremist Views and Allegiances

Schwemmer expressed support for a world where slavery is legal if abortion is criminalised, described himself as "very much an anti-universal suffrage guy," and accepted a supporter's label of him as "our Mormon Nick Fuentes," referring to the white nationalist influencer. The streams, accessible behind a paywall on Schwemmer's Gumroad page, include unreported material from earlier broadcasts, such as antisemitic interactions on Omegle and claims that gay men are "weaponizing" gyms to spread Aids.

Response and Scrutiny

After his appointment in March, Schwemmer faced immediate condemnation from Jewish advocacy organisations. Jeff Tischauser of the Southern Poverty Law Center noted that Schwemmer's actions do not match his rhetoric of leaving the far-right movement. Ben Lorber of Political Research Associates added that Schwemmer is attempting to downplay extreme views while participating in Republican politics, similar to strategies advocated by Nick Fuentes.

Historical Context and Recent Statements

Schwemmer has a history of broadcasting on platforms like Cozy.tv, founded by Fuentes, and attended Fuentes's America First Political Action Conference in 2022. In recent streams, he defended racist slurs, opposed women's suffrage, and expressed homophobic and antisemitic views, including celebrating a DNA test showing "0% Jewish" ancestry. Despite issuing a statement distancing himself from past comments, materials reviewed show consistent allegiance to far-right ideologies as recently as last December.
