Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years, ending a drought that stretched back to the 2003-04 Invincibles season. The title was confirmed after Manchester City could only draw 1-1 with Bournemouth on Tuesday night, meaning Arsenal's 82-point tally cannot be surpassed with one match remaining.
The Gunners' title-winning moment came while they were not playing, as Erling Haaland's 95th-minute equaliser for City was not enough to deny Arsenal. Eli Junior Kroupi had given Bournemouth a first-half lead. Arsenal still have the chance to win the Champions League for the first time, facing Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.
Mikel Arteta's side have built their campaign on defensive solidity, keeping 19 clean sheets and securing a third straight Golden Glove for David Raya. Since a defeat to City last month, Arsenal have won four league matches in a row without conceding a goal, piling pressure on City, who stumbled against Everton and Bournemouth.
The 22-year wait is the longest period Arsenal have gone without a league title since the Second World War. There have been near misses in 2007-08 and 2015-16, and three successive second-place finishes under Arteta. The trophy will be lifted at Selhurst Park after the final day match against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
