Wayne Rooney Hospitalised After Hand Injury on BBC Show

Wayne Rooney has been hospitalised after injuring his left hand while filming a segment for the BBC's The Wayne Rooney Show podcast. The former Manchester United and England striker could require surgery following the incident, which occurred during a goalkeeping drill with Everton's Jordan Pickford.

Rooney appeared on BBC television on Saturday wearing a wrist brace, explaining that he had dived to save a penalty from Pickford during filming at Everton's training ground. 'I went in goal and then it was a great save off Jordan and then I've messed my hand up,' he said. 'I'm with a surgeon. I've been in the hospital and I'm back on Monday.'

The 39-year-old, who re-joined Everton in 2017 shortly after Pickford's arrival, is awaiting a consultation to determine whether an operation is necessary. The pair were briefly teammates at Goodison Park.

Rooney, who won multiple Premier League titles and one FA Cup with Manchester United in 2016, has since moved into punditry after managerial stints at Derby County, DC United, and Plymouth Argyle. He left Plymouth midway through the 2024/25 season.
