A former Strictly Come Dancing choreographer has been forced to give up dancing after a stage fall left her with life-changing injuries. Kylie Hayes, 41, who worked on the BBC show for 12 series, is now suing the theatre company responsible.
Ms Hayes was preparing for a West End run of 42nd Street at the Curve Theatre in Leicester when she fell off-stage. The steps she was due to use had been moved and were not lit as usual, despite being previously 'clearly marked and lit'. She tore the junction between her Achilles tendon and calf muscle, requiring a year off work.
The injury has ended her dancing career. 'It was absolutely devastating,' she said. 'Everything I had ever known had been ripped away from me in seconds. Dance isn't just a career, it's my essence.' She now works as a receptionist and massage therapist near her Devon home.
Theatre company 42nd Street 2023 Ltd has admitted liability for the accident. Ms Hayes is being represented by Express Solicitors.
