Stephanie Pratt Launches Scathing Attack on Brother's Political Ambitions
Former reality television personality Stephanie Pratt has unleashed a blistering social media critique against her brother Spencer Pratt's candidacy for mayor of Los Angeles. In a series of posts on the platform X, Stephanie vehemently opposed the bid, labelling a potential vote for her sibling as "a vote for stupidity."
"LA Does Not Need Another Unqualified Mayor"
Stephanie Pratt began her online tirade by acknowledging Spencer's local efforts while simultaneously dismissing his suitability for the city's highest office. "Spencer has done great work for the palisades. But LA does not need another unqualified and inexperienced mayor," she declared. In a follow-up message, she accused him of leveraging the campaign for personal gain, stating, "He's just trying to stay famous and sell his memoir don't be fooled." This reference points to Spencer's recently published autobiography, The Guy You Loved to Hate: Confessions from a Reality TV Villain, which details his television career and family relationships.
Concerns Over Governance and Political Reality
Elaborating hours later, Stephanie expressed specific reservations about the scale of the role. "I would love him to be mayor of Palisades but not LA with 4 million people. I'd be impressed if a republican could turn LA democrats thb," she wrote, misspelling "tbh" (to be honest). She emphasized her worry for the city, adding, "I'm WORRIED about LA. I have no problem with Spencer playing government but our city needs help." She firmly concluded that her brother "doesn't belong in the government. Run the palisades all you want not LA."
Revisiting Reality TV Rivalries and Family Tensions
The public dispute echoes the often-fraught dynamic between the Pratt siblings, famously documented on the MTV reality series The Hills from 2006 to 2010. The show followed a group of affluent young Californians, led by Lauren Conrad. Spencer and his wife Heidi Montag, collectively known as "Speidi," were frequently accused of attempting to sabotage Conrad's reputation during the program's run.
Stephanie invoked this history to conclude her social media outburst, affirming her allegiance. "And yes fact- I will always be on team Lauren Conrad. Those two spent years trying to destroy her life for magazine covers. I always side with the vulnerable who need help not the people inflicting pain on others," she posted.
Spencer Pratt's Campaign and Controversial Past
Spencer Pratt announced his mayoral campaign weeks earlier at a rally marking the one-year anniversary of the devastating Pacific Palisades wildfire, which destroyed his family home. He and Heidi have been vocal critics of the city's disaster response and participated in a lawsuit against Los Angeles.
Addressing approximately 1,000 attendees, Pratt framed his run as a mission. "Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I'm done waiting for someone to take real action. That's why I am running for mayor," he proclaimed. He vowed to "expose the system" and cleanse the city's politics, asserting, "when we are done, LA is going to be camera-ready again."
His memoir further complicates his public image, with admissions of selling paparazzi photos and staging incidents for profit, including involving Mary-Kate Olsen. The Independent has contacted Spencer Pratt's representative for comment on his sister's remarks.
