Rudy Giuliani Leaves ICU, Thanks Supporters for ‘Love and Prayers’
Rudy Giuliani Leaves ICU, Thanks Supporters

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, has been moved out of the intensive care unit at the hospital, his spokesperson announced. Ted Goodman stated that the 81-year-old, who was admitted on Sunday, and his family deeply appreciate the 'outpouring of love and prayers' they have received over the past week.

Recovery Progress

Although Giuliani has left the ICU, he 'will spend some time recovering before leaving the hospital,' Goodman said. 'The power of prayer is working,' he wrote on X. 'The mayor feels it. We feel it. Please keep them coming for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani.'

On Monday, Goodman confirmed that Giuliani is recovering from pneumonia. The virus had 'quickly overwhelmed' his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain oxygen levels. However, the former mayor is now breathing on his own.

Giuliani’s partner, Maria Ryan, told Fox News that he began feeling ill while returning from a trip to Paris. When his condition became critical, a priest was called to administer last rites. 'This guy’s got 9 lives; today he’s doing much better,' she added.

Health Background

Giuliani earned the nickname 'America’s Mayor' for his leadership after the 9/11 terror attacks. His spokesperson noted that 'on September 11th, Mayor Giuliani ran toward the towers to help those in need, which later led to a diagnosis of restrictive airway disease.'

Attorney Michael Barasch, representing Giuliani, told The New York Times that his client is applying for the World Trade Center Health Program, which provides free medical care to those affected by the attacks. 'I’m proud to represent him and get him the health care he deserves,' Barasch said.

Political Reactions

On Truth Social, President Donald Trump called Giuliani the 'Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR.' Trump claimed the former mayor was 'treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics' and Democrats, adding, 'They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!' Trump also called for Giuliani to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Last August, Giuliani was hospitalized after a car accident in New Hampshire. He suffered fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations, and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
