Rooney Criticises Arsenal's Champions League Celebrations

Wayne Rooney has criticised Arsenal's celebrations after the Gunners secured their place in the Champions League final for the first time in two decades with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid. Bukayo Saka's first-half goal proved decisive at the Emirates Stadium, sending Mikel Arteta's side to Budapest for the final on May 30.

Rooney: 'Celebrate When You Win'

Speaking on Prime Video Sport, the former Manchester United striker expressed his disapproval of the exuberant scenes that followed the final whistle. Arsenal players and staff, including Arteta, sprinted onto the pitch to celebrate with fans, while fireworks lit up the sky above the stadium.

"They deserve to be in this position but they haven't won it yet," Rooney said. "I think the celebrations are a little bit too much. Celebrate when you win!"

Ian Wright Responds

Arsenal legend Ian Wright, without directly referencing Rooney, urged supporters to savour the moment. In a video posted on X, Wright said: "Arsenal fans, let me tell you something: enjoy this. The celebration police will be out in force, do not get nicked! Enjoy yourselves, football's about moments and this is a big moment. Enjoy it."

Wenger's Perspective

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger offered a balanced view, stating: "They celebrate well tonight - that is normal, but you want more for them to focus on the final already and the next game. The celebration is deserved, happiness is absolutely normal, but now the next step is to go to the final and win it."

What's Next for Arsenal?

Arsenal will face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in the final in Hungary. Defending champions PSG hold a 5-4 lead ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena. The Gunners last appeared in a Champions League final in 2006, losing 2-1 to Barcelona in Paris. They are also chasing a first Premier League title in 22 years, sitting five points clear of Manchester City after their 3-3 draw at Everton.
