An actor suing Rebel Wilson for defamation secured a $150,000 record deal with a publicist representing international superstars amid their feud, a court has heard. Charlotte MacInnes is taking legal action over social media posts by Wilson alleging MacInnes made a sexual harassment complaint against Wilson's co-producer, Amanda Ghost.
MacInnes claims the posts, seen by Wilson's 11 million followers, suggested she withdrew the complaint in exchange for acting and music opportunities. She denies making any complaint and says her reputation was damaged before she could benefit from starring in her first feature film, The Deb.
However, Wilson's barrister, Dauid Sibtain SC, argued MacInnes suffered no career harm. Her manager, Shoshanna Stone, told the Federal Court on Wednesday that MacInnes signed with Atlantic Records in late 2025, with a $110,000 US advance for two EPs. Stone's clients include Britney Spears and Shakira.
Hannah Reilly, co-writer of The Deb, described MacInnes as a talented actor who had been 'hardened' by the posts. In an affidavit, Reilly wrote that MacInnes suffered nightmares, panic attacks, and stopped eating. 'She has expressed it has been an all-consuming nightmarish force in her life,' Reilly said.
Wilson denies defamation and maintains MacInnes made the complaint before retracting it. The Deb was released in Australia in April after legal delays.
