Lucy Letby, the former neonatal nurse convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others, is reportedly enjoying a comfortable life behind bars at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey. Fellow inmates have described her existence as 'cushty', claiming she spends her time gorging on junk food, watching daytime TV, and taking on multiple paid roles within the prison.
Letby is housed on Unit Four, a wing for 'enhanced inmates' who receive privileges such as a TV in their cell, more visits, and the ability to wear some of their own clothes. She has secured three sought-after jobs—kitchen server and laundry worker—earning £8 per shift. A prison source told The Mirror that Letby is rarely locked in her cell and is always accompanied by a guard due to fears of attack.
The killer has reportedly formed a close bond with Beinash Batool, the stepmother of murdered 10-year-old Sara Sharif, who is serving 33 years for torture and murder. The pair enjoy playing card games like Uno and competitive chess, which staff say helps with anger management. They are also known to make cheese toasties together in the kitchen, much to the annoyance of other inmates.
Letby's behaviour has sparked controversy, with some prisoners accusing her of 'turning on the tears at the drop of a hat' to elicit sympathy and earn perks. A source said: 'She thinks she's Queen Bee... if she was a man, she'd be stuck in the general population and she'd be getting attacked all the time.' Staff are said to be terrified of Letby and pander to her demands, further fuelling resentment among other inmates.
