Katie Price has announced that she has located her husband, Lee Andrews, who is being held in Dubai Central Jail, also known as Al Awir prison. The former glamour model revealed that Andrews called her for two minutes from the facility, confirming he is alive and okay. He was allegedly detained on suspicion of espionage on 14 May.
Price told The Sun: “I have found him – he is alive, and he is okay. I told him how worried I had been and told him I loved him. It was very rushed, but he said the authorities out there thought he was a spy. I don’t know much more than that right now.”
Dubai Central Jail, located in the Al Aweer area, is the emirate's primary correctional facility. It has faced repeated criticism over poor conditions. According to the Detained in Dubai website, new inmates often sleep on the floor without a bed. Human Rights Watch has reported human rights violations, including denial of essential HIV treatment to non-national detainees, overcrowding, and inadequate medical care.
Former British inmates have described harrowing experiences. In 2013, Londoner Suneet Jeerh was imprisoned there; his sister said he was forced to watch men being raped and was “wasting away.” Another former inmate, Karl Williams, called Al Awir the “Dubai version of Alcatraz,” claiming he witnessed violent clashes and stabbings. Albert Douglas alleged that a guard burned a man’s private parts and that young inmates were hung upside down and beaten for fun. Dubai authorities have consistently denied these claims.
