Green Candidate Campaigns After Arrest Over Antisemitism

A Green Party council candidate arrested on suspicion of antisemitic social media posts has been seen canvassing in south London, prompting Labour to accuse the party of failing to take the issue seriously.

Sabine Mairey, who was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on Thursday, was pictured on Sunday campaigning in Clapham alongside other party activists. The Greens have declined to comment due to the police investigation, but it is understood Mairey is under party investigation and likely to be suspended.

Green Party rules state that candidates under suspension or investigation should not campaign. Party officials said the central party was unaware of Mairey's canvassing and will remind her of the rules.

Labour's Steve Reed, the housing and communities secretary, said: 'The Green party is rotting from the head down. Shame on Zack Polanski’s moral cowardice.' Polanski, the Greens' leader in England and Wales, told the BBC that tackling antisemitism was 'hugely important' and that he disowned candidates who made such comments.
