Good Morning Britain interrupted its regular programming on Tuesday to report a major development in the Henry Nowak case. Presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid revealed that two individuals have been arrested following protests over the 18-year-old's death.
Policing minister Sarah Jones confirmed the arrests, stating that one person was held for assaulting a police officer and another for possession of a weapon. The arrests came after riot police clashed with crowds in Southampton, where hundreds had gathered near the site of Nowak's stabbing.
Susanna Reid reported that protesters threw wheelie bins, bottles, and bricks at police officers, while some chanted 'I can't breathe' — Nowak's last words as he lay dying. Ed Balls added that the Home Secretary accused protesters of hijacking tragedy, noting that the Nowak family had asked for Henry's death not to be used to create further division.
ITV correspondent Jonathan Swain, reporting from Southampton, described a national outcry and anger not only over Nowak's murder but also over the police response. He emphasised that the family did not want the protests. Social media reactions were mixed, with some condemning the violence and others criticising media coverage.
