Fact Check: Reform UK on Free Prescriptions and AI Videos

Full Fact, the UK's largest fact-checking charity, has examined claims made by Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan that Reform UK has not committed to keeping free prescriptions in Wales. This is incorrect. While Reform UK's Welsh manifesto did not mention prescriptions, the party has stated publicly elsewhere that it would maintain the policy.

On March 17, during a televised debate, Reform UK Senedd candidate James Evans said: “Reform UK will keep the NHS free at the point of delivery, and we will keep free prescriptions.” This clip was shared by Reform UK Wales on social media. A party spokesperson confirmed to Full Fact that it has consistently said it would keep free prescriptions in Wales, and leader Dan Thomas has reiterated this stance.

Welsh Labour argued that Nigel Farage has discussed different NHS funding models, including privatisation, and that the Reform UK Wales manifesto contains no commitment on prescriptions. However, Full Fact found multiple social media posts from Reform candidates and branches explicitly pledging to keep prescriptions free.

Separately, Full Fact investigated AI-generated videos circulating on Facebook, claiming to show overturned dinghies in the English Channel with hundreds of lives lost. Analysis using Google's Gemini AI tool revealed SynthID digital watermarks, indicating the videos were AI-generated. Other clues included blurred cliffs and glitches in debris.

While six people died in April attempting to cross the Channel, there are no reports of 100 deaths in a single crossing. Oxford University's Migration Observatory recorded 24 confirmed deaths related to Channel crossings in 2025. Full Fact advises checking sources and using its guide to identify AI content before sharing such clips.
