A prison officer at HMP Nottingham has suffered part of their ear being bitten off in an attack, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed. The incident occurred at the Category B prison on Perry Road at approximately 09:30 BST on Wednesday.
The officer has since been discharged from Queen's Medical Centre but continues to receive treatment, according to police. Concerns about staff safety at the jail were previously raised in April, and a prisoner reportedly attempted to blind himself last week.
The Ministry of Justice stated that violence towards staff would result in severe consequences. A spokeswoman said: 'We have referred this incident to the police and are helping them with their inquiries. We always press for the most serious charges to be laid against anyone who is violent in prison.'
