Coronation Street star James Cartwright has confirmed that his character, villain Theo Silverton, must leave the show, but he may not be the one killed off during the upcoming murder week. In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Cartwright teased that Theo's exit could take a different form, leaving fans guessing about his fate.
Theo's Exit Is Inevitable
Cartwright stated that after Theo's terrible behaviour—including killing vicar Billy Mayhew and abusing partner Todd Grimshaw—he has no choice but to face consequences. "He's running out of road. He's like a cornered dog," Cartwright explained. "He's either gonna get put in the dog pound or he'll savage someone. Or he's gonna have to make a run for it."
The actor added that the residents of Weatherfield have decided Theo must go, and justice must be served. "Whether that's Corrie's own brand of justice or the courts, something has got to be done about it. He's got to go," he said.
Murder Week Possibilities
With five potential death victims, including Theo, Cartwright teased that his character might not be the one murdered. "It could be anyone, that's what is interesting," he said. "You have Theo and Carl Webster going head-to-head, it could be anybody."
When asked who might kill Theo if he were the victim, Cartwright suggested several suspects: "You've got George... George could do it because George could put him in a coffin and bury him and you'd never know. You've got Todd, you've got Summer, you've got Carl obviously."
Future Exit Plans
Cartwright acknowledged that Theo's exit could happen later, not necessarily during murder week. "Something needs to happen to that man, whether it's this week or six months, 12 months," he said. He described his time on the show as "one of the great joys and privileges of my life," but admitted that Theo cannot continue indefinitely.
