Chelsea have issued an update on Jesse Derry after the 18-year-old winger was taken to hospital following a sickening clash of heads during Monday's Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. The teenager, making his first top-flight start, collided with Forest defender Zach Abbott on the stroke of half-time in the 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Derry received lengthy treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off and taken to hospital. Sky Sports later confirmed his hospitalisation. However, Chelsea have since provided a positive update, stating that Derry is conscious and talking.
In a statement on their X account, the club said: "Jesse Derry has been taken to hospital as a precaution following his first-half substitution during today’s #PL game against Nottingham Forest. Jesse is conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks. We wish him a speedy recovery and thank the medical staff for their swift response."
The incident occurred during a challenging match for Chelsea, who fell to a 3-0 defeat at home. Derry's injury added to a difficult evening for the Blues, but the club's update provided reassurance that the young player is in good spirits.
Further updates are expected as Derry continues to undergo precautionary checks. The club and fans alike hope for a full and speedy recovery for the promising winger.
