NFL Reporter Unleashes Fury Over Colleague's Resignation Amid Affair Scandal

A prominent female NFL reporter has launched a blistering public attack on fellow journalist Dianna Russini, following Russini's resignation from The Athletic this week. The departure comes amid swirling allegations that Russini was involved in an improper relationship with married New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.

Suggestive Photos Spark Controversy

Last week, photographs emerged showing Vrabel, 50, and Russini, 43, in what appeared to be compromising situations during a luxury getaway in Sedona, Arizona. The images, taken at the adults-only Ambiente hotel which costs approximately $2,500 per night, depicted the pair hugging, lounging poolside, and laughing together. Both individuals are married to other people and have two sons with their respective spouses.

Brutal Social Media Confrontation

In response to Russini posting her resignation letter on social media, Crissy Froyd - who covers the NFL and college football for USA Today SMG - delivered a withering public rebuke. Froyd commented directly on Russini's X post with scathing words that have since ignited further controversy across sports media circles.

'I'm sure you were told to submit this or that you'd get fired instead,' Froyd wrote. 'Don't let the door hit you on the way out. We know who you really are and what you've been up to for years.'

Froyd went on to assert that Russini's alleged conduct 'does so much detriment to women in sports who have done things the right way.'

Allegations of Longstanding Misconduct

Froyd subsequently doubled down on her accusations in a formal statement provided to the Daily Caller, making a series of explosive allegations about Russini's professional conduct over an extended period.

'From fights with other reporters in Chili's parking lots about hooking up with married NFL coaches to everything else, it is almost certainly all true,' Froyd claimed. 'It was the worst kept secret in the NFL reporting world for a while.'

The reporter revealed that she had once been offered Russini as a potential mentor but declined the opportunity, stating: 'I declined because I knew what she was about and her track record.'

Defiant Denials and Professional Fallout

Both Russini and Vrabel have issued statements confirming their March 28 interaction but have vehemently denied any improper conduct. Vrabel specifically dismissed the story as 'laughable,' while Russini told Page Six that they were at the resort with larger groups of people.

Despite these denials, Russini resigned from The Athletic on Tuesday while standing behind all of her work from her 15-year career at the publication, ESPN, and other outlets. In a defiant statement, she insisted that her resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing.

'I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career,' Russini declared. 'I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published.'

Publication's Response and Investigation

The Athletic initially supported Russini 'unequivocally' when the Page Six story first appeared, expressing confidence in her work and pride in her journalism. However, days after the photographs emerged, the publication announced it was reinvestigating Russini and would sideline her during that process.

Executive editor Steven Ginsberg informed Athletic reporters on Tuesday: 'While I can't share the details of our investigation into Dianna's conduct, I want to emphasize that the leadership of The Athletic has taken this matter seriously from the moment we learned about it.'

Ginsberg explained that while initial concerns were addressed with a detailed explanation, 'as additional information emerged, new questions were raised that became part of our investigation.' He confirmed that Russini chose to resign while the investigation was ongoing and that The Athletic would continue a standards review of her work.

Hypocrisy Accusations and Personal Revelations

Froyd herself has faced accusations of hypocrisy in recent days after revelations surfaced about her past relationship with former college quarterback J.T. Daniels. Addressing these criticisms directly, Froyd offered a detailed explanation while drawing a sharp distinction between her situation and Russini's alleged conduct.

'Alright, so, you probably have seen a lot of people coming after me. I'll be transparent and I would love to use this as the greatest example,' Froyd stated. 'I had a strong relationship with former QB JT Daniels that, as anyone would imagine under those circumstances, did include multiple sexual encounters and there was a lot involved.'

She emphasized a crucial difference: 'However, JT and I didn't begin that relationship until after he was out of football. I can honestly say I have never slept with a player or coach for professional gain. Dianna cannot say the same. That's where the difference is.'

Froyd, who graduated from LSU in 2021, has maintained her position despite the personal revelations, continuing to assert that Russini's alleged actions have damaged the credibility of women working in sports journalism.
