The Cleveland Browns have traded star edge rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for linebacker Jared Verse and three draft picks, the teams announced on Monday.
Garrett, 30, is a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and seven-time Pro Bowl selection. Since being drafted first overall in 2017, he leads the league with 125.5 sacks, 413 pressures and 149 tackles for loss. In 2025, he set the single-season sacks record with 23.
Garrett had requested a trade in 2024 after the Browns finished 3-14, but later signed a four-year, $160m extension. However, after another losing season (5-12) and a coaching change, the Browns opted to move on. General manager Andrew Berry said: 'Do we hold on to a truly generational player, or do we make the difficult decision that we think is best for the organisation over the long run?'
The Rams, who lost in last season's NFC championship game, acquire Garrett to pair with reigning MVP Matthew Stafford. Verse, 25, the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year, heads to Cleveland along with a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-rounder and a 2029 third-round selection.
