Zarah Sultana has announced she will not pursue legal action against Jeremy Corbyn following a public dispute over their fledgling political party, Your Party. The Coventry South MP stated she is 'determined to reconcile' with the former Labour leader after tensions erupted over a membership sign-up drive.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Sultana said she would drop legal proceedings 'for the sake of the party' and as an 'act of good faith'. She acknowledged feeling 'demoralised' by the row but expressed commitment to moving forward, adding she is in ongoing discussions with Corbyn, for whom she has 'nothing but respect'.
The dispute began after a message encouraging supporters to sign up for paid membership was disowned by Corbyn as an 'unauthorised email'. Sultana had earlier instructed defamation lawyers, claiming she faced a 'sexist boys' club' and had been 'sidelined' and 'frozen out' by Corbyn and fellow independent MPs.
Corbyn had urged people not to use the 'supposed membership portal' and said legal advice was being taken. The row is the latest in a series of disagreements over the party's direction, which has yet to hold a conference or choose an official name. Sultana launched the party in July, claiming over 750,000 supporters had signed up.
