Nul points! The UK’s 10 biggest Eurovision flops of all time

The United Kingdom's dismal run in the Eurovision Song Contest continued on Saturday night when Look Mum No Computer finished last. The result has prompted the usual speculation about geopolitical voting and how to improve next year. The UK has not won the contest for almost three decades.

Among the worst flops was Andy Abraham, an X Factor runner-up and former refuse collector, who came last in 2008 with only 14 points. James Newman suffered the ignominy of receiving nul points in 2021 with his song Embers. Scooch, a bubblegum pop group, scored only 12 points from Malta and seven from Ireland in 2007, leaving them second from last.

Electro Velvet's faux-vintage song Still in Love With You earned just five points in 2015, prompting a critical tweet from MP Diane Abbott. Mae Muller, representing the UK on home soil in 2023, finished second from bottom. Engelbert Humperdinck, at age 76, scored only 12 points in 2012, finishing 25th out of 26.

Michael Rice, a former busker, came last in 2019 with 16 points, later reduced due to a Belarusian jury mix-up. Look Mum No Computer's latest failure adds to a long list of British embarrassments at Eurovision.
