Toddler Killed by Semi Truck in North Carolina Highway Tragedy

A one-year-old boy has died in a devastating accident after being struck by a semi truck while walking along a highway in North Carolina. The incident occurred on the evening of April 14, when Brooks McCoy Ambrose was hit by a 2019 white Freightliner near Sadie Road, approximately 40 miles east of Raleigh.

Details of the Tragic Accident

Authorities reported that the toddler was walking in the left lane of Highway NC-42 at around 8:10 p.m. when the Freightliner, traveling eastbound, accidentally struck him. The young boy died at the scene. He would have celebrated his second birthday in September, according to local reports from the Wilson Times.

The tragic event unfolded as Ambrose was playing outside with his father in Wilson. The child wandered too close to the highway, leading to what the family described as a freak accident. Following the collision, the driver, who has not been named, immediately pulled over and waited at the scene for the North Carolina Highway Patrol to arrive.

Charges against Ambrose's parents are not anticipated, according to officials. The family, including parents Kelsey and Keith Ambrose and their four other children, resides in Wilson, North Carolina.

Family's Heartbreaking Tributes

In the wake of the tragedy, the family has shared emotional tributes to their son. Kelsey Ambrose wrote on Facebook, I can't fathom life without you in it. You were loved from your first breath to your last. She added that her son spent his final moments doing what you loved with your favorite person, your daddy.

Keith Ambrose expressed his grief on social media, saying his heart is so empty and so full amid community support. He reflected, His last hour here was full of life. We were together. We were tearing stuff up and he loved every second of it. However, he also shared regrets, stating, in the moment he needed me the most, I wasn't there.

Community Support and Fundraising

To help with expenses for a celebration of life ceremony, Ambrose's aunt, Caitlin Howard Hughes, set up a GoFundMe page. The tribute on the page described Ambrose as happy, spunky and full of energy. It read, As we navigate this time with his family, we have many from near and far wanting to help. Any donations will be going directly to the family to help with his celebration of life.

The family requested $35,000 and has already raised over $43,000, demonstrating an outpouring of support. The page also asked for prayers for his mother, Kelsey, his four siblings, and his father, Keith, emphasizing hope for reunion in the future.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of highways and the profound impact of sudden loss on a family and community.
