Teenager Rescued After 50-Foot Fall on Queensboro Bridge During TikTok Stunt
Teen Rescued After 50-Foot Fall on Queensboro Bridge

A 16-year-old boy was rescued by firefighters after falling 50 feet down a narrow shaft on the Queensboro Bridge in New York City. The incident occurred on Monday evening while the teenager was apparently filming an urban exploration video for TikTok, according to sources who spoke with the New York Post.

Massive Rescue Operation Mobilised

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) launched a major rescue effort involving approximately ten pieces of apparatus and 75 first responders. The operation began after authorities received an anonymous tip around 5pm, with the actual rescue taking place around 9pm following an extensive search of the bridge structure.

FDNY Deputy Chief Nicholas Corrado described the challenging nature of the operation during a press briefing. 'This was a confined-space operation, which is a very difficult, time-consuming, manpower-intensive operation,' Corrado explained. 'It involves high-angle equipment, ropes, we have to monitor the air, and create high points.'

Friends Abandoned Injured Teen

According to an unnamed young woman who spoke with ABC7, the teenager had been climbing the bridge with friends who did not immediately report the fall. The woman told the outlet she learned of the accident through videos circulating in WhatsApp group chats and was the one who alerted authorities anonymously.

'I texted them anonymously. I didn't know really what to do either because I wasn't there,' the woman told ABC7. 'But these kids are panicking, and I was like, if there's someone in critical danger, I need to help.'

The woman also revealed that the teen's friends had abandoned him and fled the scene after the fall, leaving him trapped in the shaft for what authorities believe was more than four hours before rescue.

Hours-Long Search and Rescue

Firefighters conducted a painstaking search of the bridge buttress by buttress after receiving the report. Firefighter Khalid Lee told ABC7 that he eventually found a shoe and blood at the base of one of the buttresses, which helped locate the injured teenager.

'I just relayed that information to the rest of the members on the scene so we could all get the ball rolling on what we were going to use to retrieve this victim once we laid eyes on him,' Lee explained to the outlet.

Firefighters managed to put the injured teen in a harness and lower him to safety before rushing him to New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell. Authorities reported he was in critical but stable condition following the ordeal.

Disturbing Details Emerge Online

Videos shared on Reddit suggested the teenager and his friends were filming urban exploration content. A user in the New York City Reddit community posted screen recordings of group chats where videos of the accident were shared and discussed, along with a link to a Google Drive folder containing additional videos and screenshots.

The user identified the teen as Frankie and made several disturbing claims:

  • The teenager may have been pushed into the shaft by one of the people he was climbing with
  • One of the companions took Frankie's phone and threw it into a sewer
  • Frankie was verbally abused by the others after the fall

In one video from the Google Drive folder, the person recording can be heard saying: 'I have his phone. His bag is still in the f***ing bridge.'

Another video shows the group of teens climbing through one of the bridge's buttresses, navigating small openings and ladders. At the end of this footage, the person recording makes it back to road level, checks messages on his phone, and exclaims in a panicked voice: 'Bro, Frankie's dead! Frankie is f***cking dead! Oh my God, bro, no, no!'

Aftermath and Investigation

The incident highlights the dangers of urban exploration and social media stunts, particularly among teenagers seeking online attention. Firefighter Lee noted that the rescued teen was 'just mumbling from the severe trauma that he experienced' when found.

The delayed reporting of the incident meant the teenager spent several hours trapped in the confined space before rescue crews could locate and extract him. The FDNY's complex operation demonstrates the risks and resources required for such confined-space rescues in urban environments.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall and the actions of the teenager's companions who reportedly fled the scene without seeking immediate help for their injured friend.
