Inquest Reveals Violent Death of Leeds Schoolgirl Chloe Watson Dransfield
An inquest has heard that a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Leeds suffered a violent death after sustaining a single stab wound to her chest. Chloe Watson Dransfield was pronounced dead less than an hour after being discovered unresponsive on a pavement in the quiet suburb of Austhorpe.

The inquest, opened at Wakefield Coroner's Court by coroner Oliver Longstaff, disclosed that a post-mortem examination conducted on March 28 confirmed Chloe died from a single stab wound to her chest. She passed away at Leeds General Infirmary at 6.37 am on the same day, following transportation by ambulance from the scene on Kennerleigh Avenue.
Mr Longstaff described the death as violent and suspended the inquest proceedings until the conclusion of the ongoing criminal trial. Despite the efforts of neighbours who found her, Chloe could not be saved.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Three teenagers have been charged with murder in connection with Chloe's death and are set to face trial in November. The accused include:
- Kayla Smith, aged 18
- Archie Rycroft, aged 19
- A 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons
Additionally, a 14-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail as investigations continue.

Chloe, from Gomersal in West Yorkshire, had recently secured a college placement to study hair and beauty. Her family described her as a loyal, honest, family oriented princess and a beautiful young lady with her whole life ahead of her.
In a heartfelt tribute, her mother expressed profound grief, stating, I cannot put into words how I feel that you are not here with me. Her father added, We miss every single thing about her. She was beautiful, full of joy and had a wonderfully cheeky personality.

Detectives investigating the case believe a mobile phone video capturing the attack is circulating on social media. Detective Chief Inspector James Entwhistle emphasised the importance of obtaining this video, stating, We need that video. Chloe's family need answers as to why she died.
The incident has caused unimaginable grief across communities, with a mass balloon release held at Nibshaw Lane Football Pitch in Gomersal to commemorate Chloe's life. Her family invited the community to join in filling the sky with pink balloons in her honour.
School and Personal Life
Chloe was a pupil at BBG Academy in Birkenshaw, where principal Danielle Williams noted the shock and sadness felt by the entire school community. Williams described Chloe as a devoted family member, fiercely loyal friend with a big heart and happy disposition.
Friends revealed that Chloe had been in a relationship with a 17-year-old boy for about a year and a half, which was described as volatile. It is understood that she learned of his infidelity six weeks prior to her death, and the boy was present with her at a party in Austhorpe shortly before the attack.
