Two individuals from Illinois have been arrested and charged following an alleged luxury goods heist at the iconic Breakers hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. Gino Gusich and Stephanie Lichay, both aged 35, are accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of high-end items, including a Hermès Mini Kelly purse valued at over $32,500.
Late-Night Intrusion at a Premier Resort
According to the Palm Beach Police Department, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at The Breakers, a grandiose oceanside hotel where room rates start at approximately $900 per night. Gusich and Lichay, who were staying at the hotel, allegedly entered a fellow guest's room on the same floor after the occupant left the door ajar.
Surveillance footage captured the pair entering the room around 1:28 a.m. and departing about ten minutes later. The stolen items included a $1,500 Chanel purse, $385 in cash, a $25 mirror, and a $20 bottle of lotion, alongside the prized Hermès bag.
Swift Confrontation and Arrest
As Gusich and Lichay exited the room with their haul, they were immediately confronted by the rightful owners, who were returning to their accommodation. The suspects handed over the items upon being caught red-handed. Police responded to the scene around 1:41 a.m. following reports of the theft.
The Breakers, known for its extensive security measures, stated that its surveillance systems and coordination with law enforcement functioned effectively, leading to a rapid resolution. In a released statement, the hotel emphasised its commitment to guest safety, noting that security protocols enabled a swift response to hold the suspects accountable.

Both offences are classified as second-degree felonies under Florida law, carrying potential penalties of up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
