Horsewoman Fined for Sharing Ex-Boyfriend's Naked Photo in Revenge Porn Case
Horsewoman Fined for Sharing Ex's Naked Photo in Revenge Porn

A 26-year-old horsewoman has been fined after admitting to sharing a naked photograph of her ex-boyfriend, claiming he had assaulted her multiple times during what she described as a toxic relationship. Hannah Bloor, from the tiny hamlet of Somerford Booths near Congleton, Cheshire, forwarded the intimate image to a female friend, later alleging that "nothing explicit" was visible and the man could not be identified.

Victim's Severe Emotional Distress

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, provided a harrowing statement detailing the profound impact of becoming a victim of revenge porn. He described experiencing intense distress and anxiety at the thought of others viewing the images, feeling violated and too uncomfortable to socialise. "It has made me question whether I am a good judge of character," he said.

His self-confidence plummeted, leading to withdrawal from family due to shame and embarrassment. "I am unable to control my thoughts," he added, noting he had missed family events and become suspicious of others. The victim reported suffering nightmares, picking at his hand until it bled, and being referred to a community mental health nurse. He is currently undergoing therapy to cope with the trauma.

Court Proceedings and Admission

At Crewe Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Annika Livermore outlined how police initially received a report about an unrelated incident, but the complainant also alleged Bloor had shared an intimate photo. When shown the exhibit, the man confirmed he had not consented to the image being taken or shared.

Bloor admitted sharing the photo during police interviews, though she maintained the complainant was not identifiable. Her mobile phone was seized, with downloads revealing chats where she shared the image with a friend and a voice note referencing the complainant. The court noted Bloor had no previous convictions and was of good character before this incident.

Defendant's Apology and Explanation

Unrepresented in court, Bloor offered an apology for her actions. "I regret any distress that may have been caused," she said, explaining she acted impulsively. She cited her ADHD diagnosis as affecting her decision-making but emphasised this did not excuse her behaviour, accepting full responsibility.

"I did not realise the severity of sharing the image due to the fact that you could not identify him and nothing explicit was shown," Bloor stated. "It was out of character for me. I won't do it again." At an earlier hearing, she claimed to have submitted evidence of abuse endured during the relationship, alleging multiple assaults by the complainant.

Sentencing and Court Decision

Bloor was fined £341, with additional costs and a surcharge totalling £536. Magistrates refused to impose a restraining order, with chairwoman Susan Taylor stating it was "not commensurate" and "not necessary." The case highlights the lasting emotional scars of revenge porn, even when perpetrators claim mitigating circumstances.

The victim expressed ongoing fears about people in Cheshire seeing the images and difficulty moving on or forming new relationships. "I have a constant fear that this may happen again," he said, noting that being in Congleton acts as a trigger due to his past relationship with Bloor. His statement underscores the broader psychological toll of such violations, affecting personal and professional aspects of his life.
