Dyfed-Powys Police have issued an update on their investigation into the death of a man at a campsite near the Royal Welsh Show. On July 18, police were called to Penmaenau Farm, Llanelwedd, following reports of a medical emergency. Despite the efforts of paramedics, a 25-year-old man died at the scene.
Victim identified as Dewi Aeron Evans
The man has been identified as Dewi Aeron Evans from Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, Corwen. His family paid tribute, saying: "Dewi Aeron Evans, a beloved and dear son, brother and grandson; will be a huge loss to the family and community in Uwchaled. The family and community would appreciate privacy at this difficult time."
Three men released on bail
Chief Superintendent Steve Davies said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the young man’s family at this difficult time. I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident, and the death is currently being treated as unexplained. There is no evidence of any ongoing risk to the wider public in connection with this sad incident.”
In an update on Tuesday, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed three men had been released from custody on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
Royal Welsh Show continues
The 2026 Royal Welsh Show runs from Monday, July 20 to Thursday, July 23, held at the official Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, Powys. Despite the incident, the site remained open. A spokesperson for the show said: "We are deeply saddened by this tragic news, and our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends, and with everyone affected by this incident. We will continue to support Dyfed-Powys Police as their enquiries continue. The safety and wellbeing of everyone attending the event remains our priority. We are working closely as members of the Builth Wells Event Safety Group, which has extensive measures in place, including welfare and support services, medical provision and safety initiatives. We want everyone attending to feel supported and to have a safe and enjoyable time."
