Ex-Harrods Manager Charged with Rape Granted Bail Again

Former Harrods Executive Faces Multiple Sexual Assault Charges

A former Harrods manager accused of raping two women he met through online dating platforms has been granted bail for the third time. Andrew Dent, 54, who worked at the prestigious Knightsbridge department store during the 1990s, faces serious charges including nine counts of rape and multiple sexual assault allegations.

Charges Spanning Two Separate Incidents

The charges stem from two distinct incidents that occurred in 2024. According to Thames Valley Police, the first alleged victim, a woman in her 30s from South Wales, reported being attacked at a hotel in West Berkshire in June 2024. She also alleges that intimate photographs were taken of her without consent during this incident.

The second alleged victim, a woman in her 50s from London, reported being targeted at an address in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, in October 2024. Both women claim to have met Dent through dating websites or applications prior to the alleged attacks.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Conditions

Dent was initially arrested in June 2024 and granted bail on the advice of the Crown Prosecution Service. Following the second alleged incident in October 2024, he was arrested again and bailed for a second time. The defendant was remanded in custody on February 24 after his first appearance at Reading Magistrates' Court.

During a closed hearing at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Sarah Campbell granted Dent bail with a £50,000 security deposit. The specific conditions of his bail have not been made public. Dent appeared via video link from custody during the proceedings.

The full list of charges against Dent includes:

  • Nine counts of rape
  • Five counts of sexual assault by penetration
  • Three counts of intentional strangulation
  • Two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • One count of voyeurism

Professional Background and Current Role

Before facing these serious charges, Dent had established a successful career in media and marketing. After his tenure at Harrods as marketing manager in the 1990s, he served as Head of Promotions at Times Newspapers Ltd. Currently, he holds the position of CEO and publisher of Family Traveller magazine, an upmarket publication that describes itself as one of the world's largest and most influential family travel media brands.

The magazine, which launched in the United Kingdom in 2013, has expanded internationally with editions in Germany, the United States, Asia, and Canada. According to its website, the publication reaches hundreds of thousands of readers monthly around the globe.

Dent has been photographed at high-profile events, including the 2018 launch of Family Traveller Magazine in the United States at the Diplomatic Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida. During this event, he discussed strategies for targeting the affluent family travel audience.

Upcoming Court Appearance

The defendant, who lists his address as High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, is scheduled to appear for his next hearing at Reading Crown Court later this month. The case continues to develop as legal proceedings move forward, with both alleged victims having reported their experiences to Thames Valley Police.

In a 2016 interview about business success, Dent emphasized the importance of grit, determination, hard work, networking, resilience, and maintaining belief in one's product. These professional achievements now stand in stark contrast to the serious criminal allegations he currently faces.
