UAE Travel Advice Updated After Kuwait Airport Attack

Following an Iranian drone attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, the UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), warning against all but essential travel due to “significant security risks”. The attack injured multiple people and caused flight suspensions and diversions.

The FCDO advises that the Iranian regime has publicly stated its intention to target locations associated with the United States and Israel, including businesses, facilities and institutions. Travellers are urged to avoid areas around security or military facilities, and US or Israeli-linked locations.

While Iranian strikes against civilian infrastructure across the region have decreased, the FCDO warns that the risk of renewed strikes remains and further attacks could occur at short notice. Britons are advised to follow local authorities’ instructions, monitor local and international media, and sign up to travel advice email alerts.

Emirates airline continues to monitor the situation and offers customers rebooking on the next available flight in case of disruption. Those who booked flights from 2 April are eligible for one complimentary date change. Under air passengers’ rights rules, travellers are entitled to be flown to their destination as soon as possible on any airline with available seats.

The FCDO reminds travellers that it is illegal to post material online critical of the UAE government, companies or individuals, or relating to incidents in the UAE. British embassies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai continue to operate normally.
