British TikTok Creator with Criminal Past Detained in Vietnam
Sam Walker, a British man who transformed from a criminal to a TikTok content creator, has reportedly been detained in Vietnam. According to reports, a video posted on his TikTok account appears to show him being arrested by police officers in the capital city of Hanoi.
Details of the Reported Detention
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is aware of Walker's alleged detention and is believed to be liaising with local Vietnamese authorities. A family friend confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that Walker was detained on Saturday, April 4, 2026. However, the specific reasons for his detention remain unclear at this time.
In the video shared on TikTok, Walker claims to be followed by a police officer before the footage cuts to him being approached and placed into the back of a police vehicle. This incident follows multiple videos and live streams he posted from Vietnam in the days leading up to his reported arrest.
Walker's Troubled Background
Sam Walker has dozens of convictions for more than 130 offences. Earlier this year, in January 2026, he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court where a charge of sending a communication threatening serious harm was dropped. During that court appearance, it was revealed that he had been stabbed and shot, causing him to miss a previous hearing due to being in A&E for his injuries.
Previous International Incidents
This is not the first time Walker has faced legal issues abroad. In 2024, he was reportedly detained in Sierra Leone after traveling to the West African nation. He claimed to have fled the UK following bail after a separate arrest, with his trip involving chartering a private aircraft and using a speedboat to cross the Mediterranean to evade border controls after his passport was confiscated.
Walker maintained that he went to Sierra Leone to assist children living in poverty, stating in a social media post: I'm going to the slums to get these kids their operations so they can see their families again. However, a friend named Samuel contacted the Echo to warn about Walker's alleged detention there, saying he was arrested during a peaceful protest and jailed.
In a video from that time, Walker was heard saying: I will happily do prison. I don't give a s**t. You can put me in the most violent, filthy, unpredictable jail in the continent of Africa, and I promise you I will come out with my head held high. The FCDO stated they supported him in Sierra Leone and were in contact with local authorities.
As the situation develops, the FCDO continues to monitor Walker's case in Vietnam, highlighting the complexities of his criminal past intersecting with his social media activities and international travels.
