A cleanup effort is underway in Belfast following two nights of anti-immigration unrest that left parts of the city in disarray. Footage from the aftermath shows burnt-out vehicles, boarded-up houses, and shattered windows.
Police Injuries and Arrests
Twelve police officers have been injured during the disturbances, and authorities have made 16 arrests. The violence has drawn strong condemnation from political leaders.
Official Response
Hilary Benn, the Northern Ireland secretary, denounced the disorder, stating: 'There is no justification for that. Nothing can explain it away.' He further described the actions as 'racist thuggery' and emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated.
The cleanup operation is now focused on restoring order and repairing the damage caused by the riots. Community leaders are calling for calm and unity in the wake of the violence.
