A 47-year-old man has been charged with three counts of domestic violence-related murder after the bodies of his wife and two young sons were discovered at their home in Campbelltown, south-west Sydney. Police were called to the property on Monday night following a triple zero call made by the accused.
The victims were a 46-year-old woman and her two children, aged 12 and four, who had learning difficulties. The man, who was the full-time carer of the boys, was arrested at the scene and taken to Campbelltown police station. He was charged early Tuesday morning and did not appear at a subsequent court hearing.
His lawyer, Jawad Hosain, stated his client was not applying for bail and was “pretty distressed at the moment”. The judge formally refused bail, adjourning the case until 15 July, when the accused is expected to appear via videolink. No plea has been entered.
Acting Superintendent Michael Moroney described the scene as “particularly violent”, with victims found in various areas of the home. Police recovered items of interest related to the injuries sustained, though no firearms were found. The accused was not previously known to police.
Neighbours expressed shock and devastation, with flowers laid at the scene. NSW Premier Chris Minns said he was “devastated” by the deaths, noting the tragedy occurred despite increased resources for domestic violence prevention.
