In a significant disclosure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that his country's forces have actively shot down Iranian-designed Shahed drones in multiple Middle Eastern nations. This announcement marks the first public acknowledgement from Kyiv's war-time leader regarding Ukraine's aerial assistance to allied countries engaged in the conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
A Strategic Effort to Assist Partners
Mr Zelensky explained that these operations were part of a broader strategic effort to help international partners counter the very same weapons that Russia has extensively deployed in Ukraine. By leveraging their hard-earned expertise, Ukrainian forces are now extending their defensive capabilities beyond their own borders to support nations facing similar threats.
Deployment of Ukrainian Experts
The president disclosed that at least 228 Ukrainian experts in drone defence and military specialists have been deployed across the region. These professionals are providing crucial assistance to countries including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan. Growing International Requests for Support
Earlier in March, Mr Zelensky indicated that Ukraine was already assisting five Middle Eastern and Gulf nations. He further revealed that both the United States and various European countries have requested similar support. Domestically Produced Interceptor Drones
Ukrainian forces participated in these active operations abroad using domestically produced, battle-tested interceptor drones. Ukraine has emerged as a leading producer of cost-effective and highly efficient drone interceptors, among a range of aerial defence systems. These technologies have proven absolutely crucial in defending against Russia's full-scale invasion, and are now being shared with allies.
