UK MPs and Union Leaders Demand End to British Involvement in US-Israel War on Iran
In a powerful joint statement, Members of Parliament and trade union leaders have called for Britain to immediately end all participation in the US-Israel war on Iran. They describe the conflict as a catastrophic escalation in an already devastated region, warning that continued involvement risks plunging the area into a wider war and causing further global economic convulsions.
The signatories, including Jeremy Corbyn MP, Andrea Egan of Unison, Maryam Eslamdoust of the TSSA union, Lindsey German from the Stop the War Coalition, Jon Trickett MP, Zarah Sultana MP, and 50 others, argue that the war is illegal and unprovoked. They highlight that it began during ongoing negotiations, with aims that appear to shift daily, demonstrating a failure to learn from past conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya.
Deep Unpopularity and Calls for Action
The war is reported to be deeply unpopular both in Britain and internationally. The group urges the government to stop allowing the United States to use British bases to pursue the conflict and to join global calls for an immediate cessation of attacks. They emphasize the appalling death and destruction in Iran, stressing that Britain must not be complicit in further devastation.
This appeal underscores growing domestic pressure for a reassessment of foreign policy, particularly in conflicts perceived as unjust or destabilizing. The involvement of prominent figures from politics and labor unions signals a broad-based concern over the implications of this war for regional stability and global peace.
