In an exclusive statement, a leading UK-based representative of Iran's opposition has declared that the change of the country's clerical regime is an urgent inevitability, calling for decisive international backing.
The Regime is Crumbling From Within
Razgar Alani, the UK representative for the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, told the Mirror that the Islamic Republic is collapsing under the weight of its own failures. He stated that the question is no longer if the regime will fall, but how its demise will unfold.
"The Iranian people's struggle for freedom is ongoing and we strongly urge the international community to stand in solidarity with us," Alani said. He called for concrete actions: supporting opposition movements, condemning human rights violations, and formally recognising Iran's ethnic minorities.
Internal Dissent and the Call for Western Support
Alani argued that the regime's ideological decay has infected its military, intelligence services, and state apparatus, causing it to lose all credibility. He cited a 2024 poll by the Gamaan Institute which found over 80% of Iranians inside the country were dissatisfied with the ruling system, a figure he believes has since grown.
"Such opinions doom the regime to crumble," he asserted. The opposition figure believes Western help is now crucial to bolster internal resistance and ensure the people's fight is not in vain. "With Western help, we can move very fast in that direction," he said, advocating for a future federal, secular, and democratic Iran.
The Kurdish Catalyst and Iran's Global Potential
Alani, who describes himself as a patriot, highlighted the pivotal role of the Kurdish minority. He reminded the international community that the 2021 nationwide uprising spread from Kurdish areas, sparked by the murder of a Kurdish woman for her attire.
He concluded by emphasising Iran's global significance, noting its ancient civilisation, skilled population, vast energy reserves, and strategic geography. He believes a new, democratic Iran could positively impact the wider world, ending the isolation caused by the current regime's "evil" and aggressive ambitions.
