Trump Drags King Charles Into Iran Conflict Again

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Britain's King Charles agrees with him on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Speaking at a White House state dinner on Tuesday, April 29, Trump told 120 guests: 'We have militarily defeated that particular opponent and we’re never going to let that opponent, and Charles agrees with me even more than I do, we’re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon.'

The US has been in conflict with Iran since February 28, when joint US-Israel strikes targeted key Iranian sites. Iran retaliated with strikes across the region. A short-term ceasefire is in place, but no long-term peace agreement has been reached.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are on a state visit to the US. Earlier on Tuesday, the King addressed the US Congress to a standing ovation. Trump congratulated him on 'a fantastic speech'. In his own remarks at the dinner, the King referenced historical difficulties in the US-UK relationship, saying: 'When my mother visited in 1957, not the least of her tasks was to help put the “special” back into our relationship after a crisis in the Middle East. Nearly 70 years on, it is hard to imagine anything like that happening today.'
