Taylor Momsen, the 32-year-old actress-turned-singer, is recovering after being hospitalised due to a venomous spider bite while touring in Mexico. The incident occurred as she travels with her band The Pretty Reckless, opening for AC/DC's Power Up tour.
Hospitalisation and Social Media Updates
Momsen used her Instagram account, which boasts 2.4 million followers, to inform fans about her medical emergency. On Tuesday evening, she initially shared a photograph of her severely inflamed leg with a caption that read, 'Hospital today, show tomorrow, poisonous spiders are NO BUENO. but the show must go on, see you tomorrow Mexico City!'
The following morning, she provided an update, revealing she had spent the night in hospital. 'Or I just spend the night in the hospital…thank you to the amazing doctors who, well, they know ❤️❤️❤️,' she wrote, accompanying the message with a photo of herself in a hospital bed wearing a black face mask and holding an ice pack to her head.
Graphic Evidence and Medical Attention
She also posted a point-of-view video clip showing her being transported through hospital corridors on a stretcher, with her visibly splotchy red leg exposed. Last Thursday, Momsen had shared another video on social media featuring a doctor treating her right leg, where she humorously asked, 'When do my super powers kick in?'
In the caption of that post, she remarked, 'So it wouldn’t be an AC/DC tour if I didn’t get bit… This time a massive spider decided to take a chunk out of me and its venom did a number on my system so had to have the wonderful doctors in Mexico come and deliver quite the shot before the show last night…add it to the list! Spider woman? Batgirl?'
Previous Animal Encounter and Fan Reactions
This spider bite incident follows a similar occurrence two years prior when Momsen suffered a bat bite while performing on stage in Spain. A fan commented on her recent post, 'Omg. First a bat now a spider.' The blonde rock star replied succinctly, 'I know.. W. T. F.'
Momsen has been in Mexico since early April, and the spider bite happened almost one week ago. Despite the health scare, she was scheduled to perform on stage in Mexico City on Wednesday evening. After this engagement, she will have some time off before resuming touring in June.
Career Background and Transition
Taylor Momsen rose to prominence playing Jenny Humphrey, the impressionable younger sister to Penn Badgley's Dan Humphrey in the popular teen drama series. During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast last autumn, she admitted that her role in the show had been 'killing' her before she decided to exit.
She was written out of the series after the fourth season as she began pursuing music full-time with her band The Pretty Reckless. 'Season one's a whirlwind,' the Just Tonight hitmaker explained, noting that by season two she already knew she wanted to leave the show. However, making the transition proved challenging due to contractual obligations.
Eventually, she found a loophole by approaching the screenwriters, who agreed to write her character out of the production, allowing her to focus entirely on her music career.
