Syrian Government Forces Bombard Idlib, Killing Civilians Amid Escalating Conflict
Syria intensifies Idlib bombardment, civilians killed

Syrian government forces, supported by Russian warplanes, have intensified their attacks on the rebel-held province of Idlib, leading to multiple civilian deaths and widespread destruction.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 15 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the latest round of airstrikes and artillery shelling. The bombardment has forced thousands to flee their homes, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation.

Escalating Violence in Idlib

The northwestern region of Idlib remains the last major stronghold of opposition forces in Syria. Despite previous ceasefire agreements, the Syrian regime, led by President Bashar al-Assad, has continued its military campaign to reclaim the area.

Local sources report that hospitals and residential areas have been deliberately targeted, raising concerns over potential war crimes. Humanitarian organisations have condemned the attacks, calling for immediate international intervention.

International Response

The United Nations has repeatedly warned of a catastrophic humanitarian disaster if the violence persists. However, diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict have so far failed to yield results.

Meanwhile, Russia, a key ally of the Assad regime, has defended its military involvement, claiming its operations are aimed at eliminating terrorist groups in the region.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

With over three million people, half of them displaced from other parts of Syria, Idlib is one of the most densely populated areas in the country. The ongoing violence has left many without access to food, clean water, or medical care.

NGOs operating in the region are struggling to provide aid amid the relentless bombing, with some facilities forced to suspend operations due to safety concerns.
