Sydney Sweeney meets freed Israeli hostages

Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney has garnered significant acclaim for a heartfelt meeting with two recently freed Israeli hostages, Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or. The Euphoria actress was photographed embracing the pair following their release from Hamas captivity in Gaza.

An Emotional Encounter and Public Reaction

The warm images of the trio were shared by the pro-Israel advocacy group StandWithUs, sparking an immediate and positive reaction across social media platforms. Fans of the 28-year-old actress flooded the internet with messages of support, deeply moved by her gesture.

One admirer wrote that Sweeney "just keeps giving me more reasons to love her every day," while another described the photos as having "warmed my heart." Others commended her courage, with one user stating she was "brave enough to stand for what’s right" and another applauding, "She’s not afraid of being cancelled in Hollywood. Bravo."

The praise extended to official channels. Itai Biran, a diplomat at the Israeli Consulate General to the Midwest in Chicago, posted on X, "Turns out it's not just the jeans that fit well, it's the values too." The UK National Jewish Assembly also commended Sweeney, calling her a "Brilliant actor, and genuinely admirable to see her take the time to meet them and show support."

The Hostages' Harrowing Ordeal

Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or were abducted on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked the Nova music festival in southern Israel. Argamani endured 245 days in captivity before being freed on June 8, 2024. Her partner, Or, suffered a far longer imprisonment, lasting 738 days until his release in October 2025.

While the exact date of the meeting with Sweeney was not disclosed, it occurred while Argamani and Or were visiting the United States on a holiday. The encounter took place amidst Sweeney's relationship with music executive Scooter Braun, who has a established connection to the cause.

Braun's Advocacy and Personal Connection

Scooter Braun, whose grandparents were Jewish Holocaust survivors, has frequently spoken at StandWithUs events and had previously met both freed hostages. He first met Argamani during a surprise appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York in September 2024, later sharing on Instagram that the experience left him "in tears."

He reunited with both Argamani and Or during their U.S. visit last month, posting about the "Beautiful night getting to see these two together." Braun also spoke out publicly last month following antisemitic terrorist attacks on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.

In a statement shared by StandWithUs, Braun said, "My Jewish friends feel like everyone is talking about gun violence or a massacre, but no one is talking about the fact that these were Jews in an increasingly hostile and dangerous environment for Jews all around the world."

The meeting between Sydney Sweeney and the former hostages has therefore transcended a simple celebrity photo opportunity. It is viewed by many as a significant act of solidarity, amplifying the ongoing plight of those affected by the conflict and highlighting the long-term trauma endured by hostages long after their physical release.
