Sharon Osbourne Finds Comfort in Grandchildren After Ozzy's Tragic Death
Sharon Osbourne has opened up about how being a grandmother has become her primary source of strength and motivation following the heartbreaking loss of her beloved husband, Ozzy Osbourne. The 73-year-old former X Factor judge shared these poignant reflections with the Daily Mail ahead of the late rocker's posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award honour at Saturday's BRIT Awards ceremony in Manchester.
A Heartfelt Tribute at the BRIT Awards
Sharon was accompanied at the prestigious awards show by her daughter Kelly, 41, who is mother to three-year-old Sidney. Both women wore touching tributes to Ozzy on their elegant black outfits. Sharon proudly displayed a distinctive bat-shaped brooch on her lapel, explaining: 'It's a pin he always wore.' Meanwhile, Kelly wore a meaningful crucifix that had also belonged to her late father.
The legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne passed away in July last year at the age of 76, just two weeks after performing an emotional farewell concert with his bandmates at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham. His absence was deeply felt throughout the music industry event.
The Joy of Grandparenthood
With son Jack Osbourne preparing to welcome his fifth child, and second with wife Aree Gearhart, Sharon spoke passionately about her role as a grandmother. 'Oh it's the best, it's the whole reason to keep going, to put a smile on your face,' she revealed, emphasizing how her grandchildren provide essential emotional support during this difficult period of mourning.
BRIT Awards 2026: A New Era of Inclusivity
The 46th edition of the BRIT Awards marked its inaugural launch at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena, introducing significant changes to the ceremony's format and nomination structure. Following the removal of gendered categories such as Best Male and Best Female, the awards had faced considerable criticism for the low number of female artists nominated, particularly in 2023 when the Artist of the Year shortlist was entirely male.
Record Female and Non-Binary Representation
However, 2026 has ushered in a transformative era, with an impressive 70 percent of this year's nominations featuring female or non-binary artists. Leading the nominations are Lola Young and Olivia Dean, each receiving five nominations, closely followed by comeback artist Lily Allen with three nominations for her critically acclaimed fifth album, West End Girl.
The 40-year-old singer used this album to chronicle the painful collapse of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour and his alleged infidelities during their relationship. She will compete against both Young and Dean for the coveted Artist of the Year award, while also vying for Album of the Year and Pop Act honours.
Notable Nominees and Performers
Lola Young, 24, is additionally nominated for Breakthrough Artist and Alternative/Rock Act, though her attendance at the ceremony remains uncertain. Following the nomination announcement, she expressed overwhelming gratitude: 'Five BRIT nominations, how is this even possible? I've had this dream a thousand times, so I'm slightly convinced that my alarm clock is about to wake me up. Seriously, this means so much to me.'
Olivia Dean, 26, achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first woman since Adele in 2021 to simultaneously claim the UK's number one single and album in the same week with her song Man I Need and album The Art of Loving, both released in 2025. Nominated in five categories, she will also perform at the ceremony, sharing her excitement: 'To go from being a student of The BRIT School in the crowd to being a performer 10 years later is really crazy.'
Other Prominent Contenders
British rapper Dave has received recognition in three significant categories: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act. The 27-year-old artist released his third studio album, The Boy Who Played The Harp, in 2025 and has since become the first British rap artist to debut three albums at number one in the UK's official charts.
Meanwhile, Raye has been nominated in just one category this year, following her record-breaking achievement of six awards in the previous ceremony. The full list of nominations showcases a diverse range of talent across multiple genres, reflecting the evolving landscape of the British music industry.
